Now sometimes poetry can be a scary word, but do not fear. You are going to be able to look at a poem by the end of this lesson and analyze pieces of it to get a better understanding of what the author is trying to say and how she is saying it.

What these terms mean for analyzing poetry
Now that you have reviewed those terms, you are going to go on to find them in poems and explain what their purpose is and how they are adding to the value of the poem. Look at the poem below and try and identify a few of the above techniques used in the poem and for what reasons the poet might have used them.
Now that you have read it, look below and see a couple examples I have pulled out, but there are soooo many more examples.
Portfolio Assignment: What do you turn in?
For this portfolio you are going to:
1. select a poem from the Virtual Poetry Museum on slide five
2. fill out the Experiencing Poetry Organizer (please EXPLAIN your answers)
3. Select one magazine (either 1, 2, or 3 from the list on slide five) and write a paragraph of 5-7 sentences explaining why the poem you chose would go with the magazine you picked.
