lesson 6: structure in king's letter
Remember, we are working on reading and analyzing Dr. Martin Luther King's 'A Letter from Birmingham Jail.'
In lesson 5 we read the letter, and in this lesson we will see how the structure of an written argument works to create an effective piece of writing.
The interactive on slide 1 shows a great visual comparing the structure of an effective piece of writing to the structure of a house! Pretty cool!

claim, support, deliver
Remember, in lesson 4 we learned that a 'good fight' or academic argument, has three main characteristics:
it clearly states the point
it provides SPECIFIC and RELEVANT facts, examples and/or evidence for the claim
it is given in a way that makes an impact on the intended audience.
On slide 2 of the lesson, click the 'Tips You Can Use' with the light bulb icon by it.
It will drop down some guiding questions to help you be able to analyze an excerpt (part of) of the letter.
The excerpt is provided for you on slide 2 as well--sometimes these MLK Letter interactives mess up (mine keeps says "Connexus has stopped responding") so I'll give you the excerpt here:

Use the interactive on slide 3 to see the different parts of the letter! It's pretty good!
On slide 4 you are provided with 'Letter from Birmingham Jail' handout. If I were you, I'd complete it and hold on to it.
Remember, you'll be writing a 5 paragraph analysis of this letter later in the unit.
