Remember, we are responding to the following prompt:
We wrote our thesis sentence and introductory paragraphs in the previous lessons. The next thing we need to do is write our three body paragraphs.
A five paragraph essay has the following structure:
Introduction with thesis
Body 1
Body 2
Body 3
Conclusion
Before we write, this lesson asks us to outline (or plan) what we are going to write our three body paragraphs about.
HINT: Your body paragraphs are three examples the support your thesis statement.
Remember your thesis?
Yeah, me either. We better stop for a second and get our thesis statement out again. Let's put it somewhere where we can see it when we need to (and we will, frequently). Remember, it's the assignment we completed for lesson 7.
Ok, here is mine:
In his writing. "A Letter from Birmingham Jail, " Dr. Martin Luther King uses the three stylistic elements of claim, figurative language and purposeful structure to make a lasting impression on his audience.
The interactive on slide 2 of the lesson shows how a thesis statement should function as a map to the rest of the essay.
The better your thesis, the easier it will be to create your outline and thus write your essay.
For example: my thesis tells me that
Body 1 will be 5 sentences on Dr. King's claim
Body 2 will be 5 sentences on figurative language
Body 3 will be 5 sentences on the structure of the letter
