We have been working on responding to a prompt for an essay about Dr. Martin Luther King's "A Letter from Birmingham Jail."
We remember that at the end of lesson 13, we will have a full and complete final draft of a five paragraph essay discussing the writing techniques King used in his letter to make it so influential.

In this lesson, we will write the first of the five paragraphs. It is called the introduction paragraph.

Write an introductory paragraph
Write a paragraph of about 5 sentences that introduces your essay to your reader.
Make sure it:
Gets your reader's attention
Provides any background information your reader may need
States your thesis
Slide 2 gives you very detailed information on how to get your reader's attention.
Slide 3 gives you an understanding of how to construct the middle part of your introduction
Slide 4 summarizes the lesson and reminds you of the essay prompt.
The information is only important if you plan on completing the assessment as assigned in the lesson.
